Andrew Johnson had made a new amendment which was now the 13th of the amendments. The 13th amendment was ratified on January 31st in the year of 1865.
In the 13 Amendment it states that; one ,"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction" and two, "Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation”, in simpler terms this means that the slavery is now illegal and so is being forced into servitude. The 13th amendment writes out the distinctions between servitude, slavery, and constitutional labor (forced labor is considered any type of labor that takes place through the implementation of threat or threats, physically restraint or anyone with regard to the proliferation of labor, such as black mail of exploitative.
To this very day more than 30 of our nations states have ratified this amendment. The 13th Amendment also is also on of the three amendments to be categorized as one of the Constitutional Amendments regarded as "Reconstruction Amendments". The 13th amendment is also referred to as one of the "Civil War amendments" because it was ratified in the five years after the Civil War.
Yes, the amendment didn't protect the rights that the African Americans were to have, but it did keep our nation more free compared to others, it made more peace between the Blacks and Whites, it made us more civil, and it made our nation grow stronger. And yes, it wasn't ratified by the House of Representatives until later on and only by the Senate, but look at all of the good things it has done for us.
So, sure Andrew Johnson was impeached but, wouldn't you want a man who has made equality between our lands to become our president once more?
